Maltese Premier League runners-up Hibernians FC won the FA Trophy for the ninth time by defeating Qormi FC 3-0 before a bumper crowd at the Ta' Qali National Stadium.

Having dismissed head coach Mark Miller at the end of the top-flight season two weeks ago, Hibernians headed into the final under the caretaker guidance of Richard Mercieca.

Mercieca's intentions were sounded loud and clear as his side, who finished six points behind title winners Valletta FC, swept past Qormi, themselves having beaten the champions 4-3 in the semi-finals a week ago.

An early penalty from Clayton Failla set the Paolites on their way, with Jackson Lima completing the scoring with his second of the match after 48 minutes.

Hibernians' Maltese international striker Andrew Cohen told UEFA.com: "This is the result of a season's hard work, big sacrifices and professionalism. I would like to give a mention to our former head coach Mark Miller for this Trophy win."
