Heart of Midlothian FC lifted the Scottish Cup for the eighth time after defeating city rivals Hibernian FC 5-1 at Hampden Park.
Hibs, who last won the trophy in 1902, fell behind to Darren Barr's 15th-minute opener in the first all-Edinburgh showpiece for 116 years. Rudi Skácel doubled the lead before the half-hour with a shot which took a deflection off James McPake, who himself halved Pat Fenlon's side's deficit with four minutes to go until half-time.
The game was effectively over as a contest when Hibernian defender Pa Kujabi was shown a second yellow card for a pull on winger Suso Santana three minutes after the restart, enabling Danny Grainger to sweep the ensuing spot kick past Mark Brown.
The advantage swiftly became 4-1 as Ryan McGowan nodded in the Jambos' fourth, Brown having got a hand on Stephen Elliott's initial header. It got worse for Hibs when Skácel, scorer of Hearts' goal when they last won the cup on penalties in 2006, found space and beat Brown from the edge of the penalty area.
"This day will probably be remembered for a long time, for another 100 years," said Skacel. "I'm so happy – we're taking the cup home. Every trophy is fantastic. This was the derby and we beat our rivals in the final."
Meanwhile, Hearts boss Paolo Sérgio was delighted to lift his first major trophy as a manager. "I'm very happy," said the former Sporting Clube de Portugal coach. "A 2-1 result is never comfortable. We spoke at half-time that we had to go very strong in the second half and we settled the game very, very quickly."
