Budućnost end four-year wait in Montenegro

Runners-up for the past three seasons, FK Budućnost Podgorica have captured their second Montenegrin crown with a game to spare after holding nearest rivals FK Rudar Pljevlja to a 1-1 draw.

Rudar needed to win to keep things alive going into the final day but were chasing the game when Srdjan Radonjić put the hosts ahead on 33 minutes. Blažo Igumanović pulled one back midway through the second period though a winner proved elusive as Budućnost maintained their six-point advantage at the summit with one round remaining.

"Rudar were big rivals, who pushed us to our limit match after match," said Radulović, whose side led for 29 rounds but never by more than three points until May. "We had the mental and football strength to end this battle in style. We now have two players in the national squad, five in the U21s and four U19s. We are on the right track and produced good footballers."

Budućnost end the campaign against FK Lovćen on Wednesday but are already assured of a host of records, including most goals scored in a campaign, most points won and, after ten successive victories between March and May, longest winning run. "These numbers show that we are deserved champions," added Radulović.
