Defender Adrian Scarlatache headed the only goal of Wednesday’s Romanian Cup final as FC Dinamo Bucureşti got the better of neighbours FC Rapid Bucureşti.
The 25-year-old has scored only four league goals in his professional career, and was delighted to have opened his account in the country's main club competition after rising to nod home a corner after 58 minutes. "It was the match of my career," said the former Under-21 international. "Obviously, I was the surprise man."
Dinamo's 13th cup success sees them move up to second in the all-time rankings alongside Rapid. FC Steaua Bucureşti top the table with 21 cup successes. This was Dinamo's first major title since they won the 2007 league crown, with their last Romanian Cup triumph having come in 2005. Since then, they have played in only one final, losing 2-1 to Steaua in 2011.
