FC Salzburg have won a historic first double, overcoming SV Ried 3-0 in the Austrian Cup final in Wien to follow up on last weekend's Bundesliga triumph.
Salzburg went into the cup final on the back of an emphatic 5-1 victory away against SC Wiener Neustadt which secured their fourth league title in six years, and their confidence was clear from the outset.
After a furious start Salzburg were 2-0 up inside the opening quarter hour. Leonardo (10) converted a penalty after Stefan Maierhofer had been fouled by goalkeeper Thomas Gebauer in the area, before Emanuel Schreiner turned the ball past his own keeper from a corner four minutes later.
Though Salzburg were dominant Ried missed a good chance to halve the deficit when Anel Hadžić headed against the bar from a 30th-minute corner. The second half was more balanced, but Salzburg hit a third in added time when Leonardo was denied by Gebauer and Stefan Hierländer converted the rebound to secure Salzburg's first Austrian Cup in their fifth final.
"I came to Salzburg to win titles," said a delighted Maierhofer. "That it has all happened already in the first year is incredible. I am also really happy for the team that we have rewarded ourselves in this way."
Coach Ricardo Moniz added: "The double is always a present. Out of three targets we have hit two and that is good. Now we have a break of three weeks and then we will start again with our preparation."
