Fenerbahçe SK lifted the Turkish Cup for the first time since 1983 thanks to a 4-0 win against Bursaspor in Wednesday evening's final.
Fenerbahçe may have lost out to Istanbul rivals Galatasaray AŞ in the Turkish Süper Lig, but this piece of silverware rarely looked in doubt once Caner Erkin put them in front just two minutes into the showpiece. Cristian's excellent long-range shot just before half-time doubled their advantage and left Bursaspor, eighth in the top flight, facing an uphill battle.
Any lingering hope they had was extinguished when Semih Şentürk made it 3-0 with 12 minutes left, while Alex completed the scoring late on. "There's no doubt we were superior to our opponents and totally deserved to win," said the Brazilian. "The cup which our club has been yearning to win for almost 30 years was very important for anybody who is part of the club. We are very happy to lift the trophy now."
