A dramatic turnaround inspired by substitute Nolan Roux earned LOSC Lille Métropole a 2-1 win against ten-man Paris Saint-Germain FC, leaving Carlo Ancelotti's charges five points adrift of Montpellier Hérault SC with four games remaining.
Montpellier's defeat of Toulouse FC on Friday night had put the pressure on PSG to win this tough test at the home of reigning champions Lille. With 20 minutes left, the capital side looked superbly placed to do just that, having built a 1-0 lead courtesy of Javier Pastore's header shortly after the interval.
The 69th-minute introduction of Nolan Roux quickly turned the tide in favour of the hosts, however, as the striker was almost immediately brought down in the area by Mamadou Sakho, earning the PSG man a straight red card and Lille a penalty. Eden Hazard converted the spot kick, before Roux turned match winner himself, turning in from close range to break the visitors’ hearts.
Elsewhere, Stade Rennais FC, AS Saint-Étienne and FC Girondins de Bordeaux earned wins against AC Ajaccio, Dijon FCO and FC Sochaux-Montbéliard respectively, while SM Caen secured a 1-1 draw at AS Nancy-Lorraine.
Valenciennes FC beat OGC Nice 2-0 to move seven points clear of the relegation zone, and bottom-placed AJ Auxerre swept aside Stade Brestois 29 4-0 to give their survival prospects a boost. Just six points now separate Auxerre from 14th-placed Nice in a tight bottom half of the table.
