BSC Young Boys have dismissed coach Christian Gross in the wake of the club's 2-1 loss at Servette FC on Saturday.
Appointed last summer with a view to turning Young Boys into championship contenders, the 57-year-old's departure came after FC Basel 1893 secured the Swiss title on Sunday. The Berne-based Young Boys lie third in the standings, 25 points behind Basel and seven shy of second-placed FC Luzern.
"I started the job with a lot of enthusiasm last year, but I knew it would be difficult," said the former Basel, Tottenham Hotspur FC and VfB Stuttgart coach. "I am massively disappointed."
Youth coordinator Erminio Piserchia will take over in a caretaker capacity between now and the end of the season, with former player Thomas Häberli serving as his assistant.
