• Reinhard Grindel started his career as a football official in 2011, serving as first vice-president of the Lower Saxony regional association. Two years later, he became treasurer of the German Football Association (DFB), where he also served as chief anti-corruption officer.
• Grindel had previously been a long-time journalist and politician. From 2002 until the summer of 2016, he was a member of the German federal parliament, for whose football team he still plays occasionally. In his youth, Grindel was a player for SC Victoria Hamburg.
• "Fair play and integrity" is the heart of Grindel's motto. He is keen to further strengthen ties at grassroots level: "We can only be successful at the top level if our basis is intact," he says.
