Real Madrid CF reached a century of Liga goals for the season as they won 5-1 at CA Osasuna to stay six points ahead of FC Barcelona.
Karim Benzama volleyed Madrid ahead on seven minutes and late in the first half Cristiano Ronaldo scored from distance before Gonzalo Higuaín claimed his 100th goal for the club. Nino did pull one back after the break but Ronaldo's free-kick deflected in off Dejan Lekić and the Portugal forward then set up Higuaín to bring up Madrid's century of league goals, from just 30 games.
Athletic Club made Barcelona work before Lionel Messi played in Andrés Iniesta to break the deadlock at Camp Nou, and the Argentina striker clinched a 2-0 victory from the spot in the second half, his 56th goal of the season. Málaga CF missed the chance to move three points ahead of Valencia CF in third as they lost 2-0 at home to lowly Real Betis Balompié.
Real Zaragoza are three points clear of the bottom two after Ángel Lafita's added-time goal gave them a 2-1 win at Real Sporting de Gijón while Real Racing Club went down 1-0 to a last-minute Guilherme Siqueira penalty for Grenada CF.
