Napoli and Bayern earn semi-final success

SSC Napoli overturned a 2-1 aggregate defecit to defeat AC Siena and set up a Coppa Italia final with Juventus, while FC Bayern München will take on Bundesliga title rivals Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup final after edging past VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach on penalties and the French Cup last four is complete.

Napoli began 2-1 down from the first leg, but it did not take long for the hosts to level the tie, as Siena's Simone Vergassola turned Ezequiel Lavezzi's free-kick beyond his own goalkeeper after ten minutes. Edinson Cavani scored twice against Udinese Calcio at the weekend, and he put this tie to bed on the half-hour mark with a finish to a sumptuous counterattacking move, heading in Marek Hamšík's clipped centre after Lavezzi had found the Slovakian in space on the left. The goal proved enough to secure the win and put Napoli into their first final since 1997, facing Juve in Rome on 20 May.

Germany
Bayern had on Tuesday seen Dortmund require extra time to reach the final on 12 May in Berlin, and the 15-time winners found the going even harder at Mönchengladbach. Indeed it took penalties to separate the two sides after an entertaining contest, and Manuel Neuer's save from Gladbach's Havard Nordtveit after Dante Bonfim had earlier fired over ensured that Bayern made the showpiece by the skin of their teeth.

France
Olympique Lyonnais booked their place in the semi-finals with a 3-1 at Paris Saint-Germain FC, goals from Kim Källström and Lisandro Lopez doing the damage before the break for the visitors after Nenê had converted a 20th-minute penalty to put PSG in front. Bafétimbi Gomis scored in added time to seal victory.

AC Ajaccio earned a surprise 1-0 win at home to league title chasing Montpellier Hérault SC, courtesy of Yohan Bocognano's 75th-minute strike, while goals from Jonathan Pitroipa, John Boye and Youssouf Hadji helped Stade Rennais FC overcome ten-man Valenciennes FC 3-1. Third-tier US Quevilly knocked out Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday.
