Getafe CF earned their first victory since January as goals from Diego Castro and Abdelaziz Barrada secured a 2-1 success at struggling Villarreal CF.
Barrada set up the first goal for Castro after six minutes but Villarreal, despite a slow start, then missed a golden opportunity to equalise when Miguel Moya stopped Borja Valero's penalty. That was the third failure from the spot for the hosts this term though Nilmar made amends by converting their second penalty of the night moments before the half-time whistle.
Getafe regained the advantage 18 minutes from time through Moroccan international Barrada's fourth Liga goal of the campaign and held on to it, despite a late Villarreal rally. The victory lifts Getafe two places up to 13th in the Spanish standings while for Villarreal CF this third defeat in four keeps them 17th, three points above the relegation zone.
