One of the two players who failed from the spot when Olympique Lyonnais were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by APOEL FC on penalties in midweek, Alexandre Lacazette scored as his side completed a morale-boosting 2-1 victory against third-placed LOSC Lille Métropole.
Lisandro (38) added to Lacazette's opener (12) and, although Aurélien Chedjou reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time and Dejan Lovren was dismissed (70), Lyon held on for their first Ligue 1 victory in six attempts to go sixth.
Earlier, AS Saint-Étienne returned to winning ways and are up to fourth following a match which became a ten-a-side contest with the dismissals of Carlos Sánchez (4) and Jean-Pascal Mignot (33). The hosts then took the lead through Vincent Aboubakar (68) but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (73) and Bakary Sako sealed a 2-1 win for Les Verts, who leapfrogged Toulouse FC, held 1-1 by FC Lorient.
There were away wins for FC Girondins de Bordeaux (2-0) at Stade Brestois 29 and FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, who moved off the bottom with a 3-2 success at Évian Thonon Gaillard FC. Struggling OGC Nice and AS Nancy-Lorraine shared a 1-1 draw.
