Alex 'delighted' to reunite with Ancelotti at PSG

Paris Saint-Germain FC have signed Brazilian international defender Alex from Chelsea FC for a fee believed to be in the region of €5m.

The 29-year-old has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Ligue 1 leaders and becomes Carlo Ancelotti's second signing during the January transfer window after compatriot Maxwell joined from FC Barcelona.

"PSG were my first choice," said the former Santos FC centre-back. "I know the importance of the club and so really wanted to come here. I spent two years under Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea and I am delighted to join up with him again here in Paris. I have won the title at every club I have played for and it's the best feeling. I intend to do the same here but I also want to play in the Champions League with PSG."

Alex moved to Chelsea from Santos in 2004, before spending three years on loan at PSV Eindhoven, helping the club achieve a domestic double in 2005. He also played a key role as the Eredivisie side reached the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they were eliminated by AC Milan.

Alex returned to the Blues in 2007, making 86 league appearances during a three-and-a-half-year stint at Stamford Bridge, before the arrivals of David Luiz and Gary Cahill persuaded the defender, who has been capped 17 times by Brazil, to leave for the French capital and link up with his old mentor.

PSG, who failed to progress from the UEFA Europa League group stage, are three points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
