Dickie was president of the Scottish association from the 1993/94 season to 1996/97. He was also a long-standing member of the SFA council, and his involvement with the association continued long beyond his term of presidency. In addition, he was chairman of Motherwell FC from 2003 to 2008, and was vice-chairman of the Premier League club at the time of his passing.
"He was a tremendously passionate and committed administrator of the game," said the current SFA president Campbell Ogilvie. His passing will be a great loss to Scottish football."
