Chelsea FC's mini revival was halted by a 1-1 draw at lowly Wigan Athletic FC, Jordi Gómez capitalising on a mistake from Petr Čech to equalise two minutes from time.
The Blues were on course for a fourth consecutive Premier League win when Daniel Sturridge collected a long, diagonal ball from Ashley Cole and drilled a shot across Ali Al-Habsi after 59 minutes. Gómez's late leveller, however, means André Villas-Boas's third-placed side are six points off the pace ahead of four matches on Sunday, when all of their title rivals are in action.
Leaders Manchester City FC host Arsenal FC, Manchester United FC − two points further back in second − visit Queens Park Rangers FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC meet Sunderland AFC. Elsewhere, Aston Villa FC play Liverpool FC.
Fulham FC put the disappointment of their dramatic UEFA Europa League exit behind them by defeating strugglers Bolton Wanderers FC 2-0 at Craven Cottage, Bryan Ruiz scoring the second with a neat chip. Bolton are bottom, a point behind Blackburn Rovers FC, who lost 2-1 to West Bromwich Albion FC.
Stoke City FC, meanwhile, recovered from a goal down to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers FC 2-1. The games between Newcastle United FC-Swansea City FC and Everton FC-Norwich City FC finished all square.
