Early pacesetters Levante UD have fallen further behind leaders Real Madrid CF after suffering their third defeat in a row, at the hands of Club Atlético de Madrid.
All five goals came within a rollercoaster final 25 minutes as Atlético prevailed 3-2 in the capital. Xavi Torres equalised for the visitors shortly after Pizzi had put the hosts ahead, but Adrián López's fourth goal of the season and Diego's 83rd-minute effort ensured Atlético moved up to ninth. Rubén Suárez hit a consolation effort in added time for Levante, who remain fourth, eight points off the top.
Athletic Club climbed up to sixth after Óscar de Marcos scored with 19 minutes remaining to hand them a 2-1 win at Sevilla FC. Jesús Navas had earlier cancelled out Andoni Iraola's sixth-minute opener for the Basque club, but De Marcos made the difference as Athletic extended their unbeaten Liga run to eight games.
Real Sporting de Gijón moved further away from the foot of the table after goals from Óscar Trejo and Nacho Novo helped them come from behind to beat Getafe CF 2-1, while Real Sociedad de Fútbol remain in the relegation zone following their scoreless draw with RCD Espanyol. CA Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano de Madrid also drew 0-0, and the game between Granada CF and RCD Mallorca was abandoned after an assistant referee was seemingly struck by a projectile.
