Cagliari Calcio have parted company with coach Massimo Ficcadenti after a run of five Serie A games without a win, bringing in Davide Ballardini as his replacement.
The 44-year-old Ficcadenti had succeeded Roberto Donadoni just before the start of the season after helping AC Cesena avoid relegation last term. He oversaw opening victories against AS Roma and Novara Calcio but a dip in form has left the Sardinian club in tenth spot. Ficcadenti is the seventh coach to be sacked in the Italian top flight this campaign.
Ballardini, 47, has signed a contract until June 2013 and takes the Cagliari helm for a third time, having been dismissed after nine matches in 2005/06 before returning to steer the team clear of relegation danger in 2007/08. He has since led S.S. Lazio, US Città di Palermo and Genoa CFC in Serie A.
