Champions Borussia Dortmund moved to within two points of league leaders FC Bayern München with a shock 1-0 victory in Bavaria.
Jupp Heynckes' side dominated possession, but the visitors always looked dangerous, and got maximum reward for their hard work when Mario Götze hit the only goal of the game on 65 minutes, firing home from ten metres after a disorientated Jerome Boateng failed to snuff out Shinji Kagawa's return pass.
VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach remain level on points with Dortmund after Marco Reus scored a hat-trick (22, 38, 51) in a 5-0 home triumph against SV Werder Bremen, to take his tally to seven in three league games. Patrick Hermann (16) and Juan Arango (53) were also on target.
FC Schalke are a point further back after a 4-0 victory against 1. FC Nürnberg, which featured goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (13 & 66), Raúl González (39) and Lewis Holtby (84). VfL Wolfsburg also scored four, Hasan Salihamidžić registering twice in a 4-1 defeat of ten-man Hannover 96, who had Didier Ya Konan dismissed before the hour. Elsewhere, Hertha BSC Berlin drew 2-2 with SC Freiburg while 1. FC Köln v 1. FSV Mainz 05 was postponed.
