Surprise Liga high-fliers Levante UD have suffered their first defeat of the season after their seven-game winning streak came to an end with a 2-0 reverse at ten-man CA Osasuna.

Looking to regain the summit after wins for Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona on Saturday, the Valencia-based outfit were stung by a pair of strikes late in the first half. Álvaro Cejudo opened the scoring with a left-footed effort from outside the area five minutes before the break and Nino swept in four minutes later. Although Osasuna then lost Cejudo to a 59th-minute red card, Levante were unable to recover and remain third, two points behind leaders Madrid.

Also on Sunday, Mate Bilić (71) salvaged a much-needed point for fourth-bottom Real Sporting de Gijón at home against Athletic Club, the Croatian international cancelling out Markel Susaeta's 62nd-minute strike for Athletic. Real Racing Club saw off Real Betis Balompié 1-0, Club Atlético de Madrid downed Real Zaragoza 3-1 and Málaga CF beat RCD Espanyol 2-1 to leapfrog their opponents into sixth spot.
