LOSC Lille Métropole failed to keep pace with the leading duo in Ligue 1 after being held to a goalless draw at Valenciennes FC, but it was a better day for Toulouse FC as victory lifted them up to fifth.
With Paris Saint-Germain FC and Montpellier Hérault SC winning yesterday, the pressure was on Lille to follow suit. They were nevertheless unable to find a way past a resilient and stubborn Valenciennes defence, and the hosts held on to climb within a point of safety in the lower reaches of the table.
Toulouse had no such difficulties, however, Étienne Didot registering his first of the season before Antoine Devaux received his marching orders in a narrow home victory against Stade Rennais FC. That result lifted the hosts above their opponents into fifth, seven points adrift of PSG at the summit. In the day's other game, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard came from behind to draw at ten-man OGC Nice.
