Newcastle United FC moved level on points with third-placed Chelsea FC after securing a narrow win against Wigan Athletic FC, while Liverpool FC were held to a 1-1 home draw by Norwich City FC.
Unbeaten Newcastle resumed their excellent form thanks to 81st-minute winner thanks to Yohan Cabaye's first goal for the Magpies. However Liverpool are four points further back, however, after drawing 1-1 in the late kick-off against Norwich. Craig Bellamy claimed the first league goal of his second spell at Liverpool just before the break but although they hit the woodwork three times, substitute Grant Holt levelled on the hour.
West Bromwich Albion FC came from behind to overcome ten-man Aston Villa FC in the West Midlands derby. Chris Herd was dismissed for Villa on 35 minutes after Darren Bent had given them the lead but Jonas Olssen and Paul Scharner both connected with Chris Brunt corners for West Brom. Sunderland AFC won 2-0 at Bolton Wanderers FC, while Wolverhampton Wanderers FC hit two late goals to draw 2-2 with Swansea City AFC.
Leaders Manchester City FC travel to Manchester United FC on Sunday when Chelsea FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC and Arsenal FC will also be in action.
