FC Bayern München have recorded their eighth consecutive victory in all competitions by posting a 2-0 triumph at FC Schalke 04 that returned them to the Bundesliga summit.
Beaten by VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in their opening fixture of the new season, Bayern have not dropped a point or conceded since and they continued their run after Germany Under-21 striker Nils Petersen (21) finished at the second attempt following a superb Franck Ribéry run and pass. Thomas Müller then made the points safe with 15 minutes to go as he volleyed in from close range.
In Sunday's other encounter, champions Borussia Dortmund slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Hannover 96 – their second league loss in succession and third in five outings. Shinji Kagawa put them in front on 63 minutes, but Jürgen Klopp's men were stunned by late strikes from Karim Haggui (87) and Didier Konan Ya (89).
