Goals from Miralem Pjanić and Jérémy Pied ended Montpellier Hérault SC's perfect start to the Ligue 1 campaign and lifted Olympique Lyonnais into second place behind their opponents.
Pjanić tapped in Michel Bastos's cross four minutes into the second half, a lead which was doubled when goalscorer turned provider for Pied to rifle in a right-footed volley. The only downside for Rémi Garde was a left-ankle injury sustained late on by Lisandro.
Montpellier, who had Younés Belhanda sent off moments before they conceded the second goal, responded through Henri Bedimo (90). They will surrender top spot if Toulouse FC or AS Saint-Étienne take three points on Sunday.
The big winners of the day were AJ Auxerre, 4-1 against AC Ajaccio thanks in part to a double from Alain Traoré, who has scored in each of the Burgundy club's four games this season. In the meeting of two promoted sides, Dijon SCO prevailed 1-0 at Evian Thonon Gaillard.
Elsewhere, an added-time effort from Anthony Modeste earned FC Girondins de Bordeaux their first win at the expense of Valenciennes FC, OGC Nice and Stade Brestois 29 drew 0-0, while FC Lorient also left it late in defeating AS Nancy-Lorraine 2-1.
