Noël Le Graët has been elected as president of the French Football Federation (FFF) by the association's federal assembly in Paris.
Le Graët, 69, steps up from vice-presidency he has held since 2005, and will be in charge until December 2012.
A successful businessman based in Brittany, Le Graët is a former mayor of Guingamp (from 1995 to 2008), president of EA Guingamp (1972-91 and 2002-11) and president of the French professional league (1991-2000).
"There is a certain emotion," he said after being confirmed as the 12th president of the association in its 92-year history. "The task is huge and will require everyone working together as soon as possible."
