Francis Gillot has been named as the new coach of FC Girondins de Bordeaux after leading FC Sochaux-Montbéliard into Europe with a fifth-placed Ligue 1 finish.
The 51-year-old has signed a two-year contract at Bordeaux, having been in charge of Sochaux since 2008. The former RC Lens defender and coach will be tasked next season with securing a return to European football for the 2008/09 French champions, who finished seventh this time around. Jean Tigana left the hot seat before the end of the campaign to be replaced by caretaker Éric Bedouet.
