FK Metalurg Skopje have won their first major piece of silverware since their foundation in 1964, beating holders FK Teteks 2-0 in the Macedonian Cup final at the Goce Delcev Stadium in Prilep.
"We really deserved to win the Macedonian Cup," Metalurg coach Zikica Tasevski told UEFA.com after goals from Marko Kostencovski and substitute Aleksandar Tenekedziev won the day. "I believed in my players' ability before the final and we came into this match with complete determination.
"In the end we took the chances we created and we truly deserved to lift the trophy. Our enjoyment is even greater as this is the first major trophy that Metalurg have won."
The die was cast after 14 minutes when Teteks goalkeeper Marko Jovanovski fumbled the ball in the penalty area, allowing Blagoja Ljamcevski to lay the ball on for Kostencovski to finish from ten metres. Toni Jakimovski's Teteks did their best to hit back but found Metalurg keeper Trajče Nikov in obdurate form, and they were hit on the break on 65 minutes, Blaze Ilijoski setting up Tenekedziev to confirm Metalurg as the 11th side to win the trophy.
