HNK Hajduk Split have announced that Krassimir Balakov will be their new coach.
Balakov will be officially unveiled on Tuesday, when he signs his contract. The 45-year-old will replace Ante Miše, who was only installed last month. Hajduk's vice-president Mile Nižetić said: "It goes without saying what a big name Balakov is in the world of football. We're sure he will bring in the right players for the new season and believe he will achieve good results here."
Capped 92 times by Bulgaria, Balakov was part of the famous side that reached the 1994 FIFA World Cup semi-finals. The former midfielder went on to coach Swiss sides Grasshopper-Club and FC St Gallen and was most recently in charge at PSFC Chernomorets Burgas, whom he left by mutual consent in December. Hajduk finished runner-ups to arch-rivals NK Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia this season, finishing 17 points behind the champions.
