Fatih Terim has returned for a third spell as coach at Galatasaray AŞ with the Istanbul side destined to finish no higher than seventh in this season's Super League.

The 57-year-old has committed to three seasons with Cimbom, having won four league titles and the UEFA Cup in the course of his previous two spells with the club, from 1996-2000 and 2003-04. The former ACF Fiorentina and AC Milan boss has been seeking a new challenge since stepping down as Turkey coach in October 2009, after failing reach the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals.

"Lessons are learned from past achievements and failures," said the one-time Galatasaray and Turkey defender as he announced his return. "Galatasaray always aim high. In the shortest time, we need to make Galatasaray a competitive side again. However, finding new players from our youth set-up such as Arda Turan should also be an additional target, because there lies the future."

Galatasaray started the season with Frank Rijkaard in charge, but he left following poor league results and an early UEFA Europa League exit. His replacement, Gheorghe Hagi, fared little better and was dismissed in March. The club's 16 league defeats this season represents an all time low for any of the nation's big three: Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe SK and Beşiktaş JK. They will not feature in European competition next season.
