Manchester United FC secured a record 19th English top-flight title − and 12th of the Premier League era − with a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers FC, while at the bottom there were important victories for Blackpool FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.
Brett Emerton had given Blackburn an unlikely lead and it looked as if United would be made to wait until the final day of the season to be crowned champions, but Wayne Rooney converted from the spot after Javier Hernández was brought down by Paul Robinson. United host Blackpool next weekend before taking on FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley on 28 May.
It was goals galore, meanwhile, at Bloomfield Road, where DJ Campbell scored twice as Blackpool recorded a crucial 4-3 triumph against Bolton Wanderers FC. Wolves also secured a vital win, 3-1 at Sunderland AFC, which lifts them into 16th place, and West Bromwich Albion FC defeated Everton FC 1-0.
