BSC Young Boys have parted company with Vladimir Petković and handed the responsibility of mounting a title challenge next season to Christian Gross.
Petković's departure follows a run of four games without a win and leaves the Berne club third in the Swiss Super League, 16 points adrift of leaders FC Basel 1893. Gross has signed a two-year deal with the 11-time Super League winners and will take over at the end of the season, with Erminio Piserchia in charge for the remaining four games of the current campaign.
"The dismissal has taken place in order to set a new momentum for the remaining four league fixtures and to plan our preparations for next season with our new coach," read a club statement. "We are hopeful that Gross's great experience will help Young Boys take the next step forward. He will be in the background in charge of planning the future with immediate effect."
Gross, 56, has had spells at Tottenham Hotspur FC, VfB Stuttgart, Grasshopper-Club and Basel, winning six league titles and five cups with the Swiss clubs and twice guiding each into the UEFA Champions League.
