Celtic's Izaguirre honoured in Scotland

Celtic FC defender Emilio Izaguirre has won the Scottish Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award in his first season with the Glasgow club.

The 24-year-old Honduran international has become a key figure in Neil Lennon's side since joining from CD Motagua last summer, with his dashing performances from left-back earning him the plaudits of his fellow professionals. "Emilio has probably been the signing of the season and it's brilliant for him to win," commented Celtic assistant manager Johan Mjällby. "I think this boy has every chance to be one of the best in the world."

Izaguirre topped the voting ahead of team-mate Gary Hooper, Rangers FC striker Steven Naismith and Kilmarnock FC midfielder Alexei Eremenko. Dundee United FC striker David Goodwillie lifted the SPFA's Young Player of the Year award, meanwhile, after notching 16 league efforts for the club this term. "I felt I have had a good season and it's good to know other people have noticed that, including the players," said the 22-year-old.
