Arsenal FC passed up the opportunity to move to within four points of leaders Manchester United FC as they were held to their third consecutive home draw by Liverpool FC.
The Gunners thought that they had won the match in added time when Robin van Persie scored a penalty after Cesc Fábregas had been felled by Jay Spearing. However, in the tenth minute of time added on for injuries to Jamie Carragher (head) and Andy Carroll (knee), both of whom were substituted, Liverpool were also awarded a spot kick.
Emmanuel Eboué brought down Lucas Leiva, who was going away from goal, and Dirk Kuyt levelled from the spot. With just one win in seven matches in all competitions, Arsenal's form appears to have deserted them. The Londoners now find themselves six points adrift of United with six games remaining.
