A day after it was announced that Louis van Gaal would leave FC Bayern München in the summer, Bundesliga rivals Hamburger SV confirmed that they will part company with their coach Armin Veh in June.
"I wanted to have talks with new sporting director Frank Arnesen, but given recent developments there is no point in talking any more," explained the 50-year-old Veh, who took over as Hamburg coach last May – arriving from VfL Wolfsburg – and had the option of a contract extension for next season in his existing deal.
Hamburg are seventh in the 18-team Bundesliga, with the club's board having recently declined the opportunity to extend chairman Bernd Hoffmann's expiring contract. A 2007 German title winner as coach of VfB Stuttgart, Veh has chosen not to leave his post immediately, with a crucial game at Bayern coming up at the weekend. "We have nine matches to get into Europe," he said. "The Bayern game is quite important, we will try to focus on that."
