The gap between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF remains at five points after the Liga rivals recorded a win apiece on Saturday, José Mourinho's team triumphing 2-1 at Club Atlético de Madrid after the champions had beaten Getafe CF by the same scoreline.
Barcelona had strode eight points clear with a home victory in which Daniel Alves (17) opened the scoring with a superb half-volley. Bojan Krkić doubled their lead with a deflected strike on his 100th league outing for the Azulgrana. Manu's well-taken volley (88) proved nothing more than consolation.
Karim Benzema (11) set Madrid on their way at the Vicente Calderón with his eighth goal in five matches, a deft finish past David de Gea. Mesut Özil (32) drove in Marcelo's cut-back with the aid of a sizeable flick off Sami Khedira, and although Sergio Agüero stroke one in late on, it was not enough.
In the other game, Jonathan De Guzman scored the only goal midway through the second half as mid-table RCD Mallorca defeated Real Zaragoza. De Guzman's effort came three minutes after the visitors' goalkeeper, Antonio Doblas, had been sent off.
