Stade Rennais FC failed to take over at the top of Ligue 1 as they lost 2-0 at home to Olympique de Marseille, who move within a point of their hosts and leaders LOSC Lille Métropole as a result.

Fourth at the start of play and with a UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg at Manchester United FC – goalless after the first meeting – in the back of their minds, Marseille struggled to hold firm in the early stages against second-placed Rennes.

But the tide turned after 23 minutes when Loïc Rémy's diving header broke the deadlock and OM secured the points when Lucho González (80) drove in Jordan Ayew's cross, ending Rennes' five-match winning streak in the process.
