Manchester United FC remain just three points clear at the top of the Premier League following a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool FC.
Arsenal FC spurned the chance to move within a solitary point of United when they were held 0-0 by Sunderland AFC on Saturday, but they can now draw level with Sir Alex Ferguson's side should they win their game in hand. The leaders suffered their third loss in five league outings as a Dirk Kuyt hat-trick helped Kenny Dalglish's hosts bounce back from their defeat at West Ham United FC last weekend.
Kuyt benefited from some superb Luis Suárez skill to turn in from close range on 34 minutes and the Netherlands striker headed in a second soon after following Nani's failure to clear. Liverpool's No18 then completed his treble on 65 minutes when he reacted first to Suárez's parried free-kick.
Javier Hernández's late header could not prevent the hosts from going sixth, six points behind Tottenham Hotspur FC, who drew 3-3 with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Wolves took the lead through Kevin Doyle but were subsequently behind twice before Steven Fletcher's 87th-minute equaliser.
