A rare goal by Gennaro Gattuso enabled AC Milan to complete a 1-0 win against Juventus and extend their Serie A lead to eight points.
In a game of few clear-cut chances, Gattuso (68) − suspended for Milan's bid to reverse their 1-0 round of 16 deficit against Tottenham Hotspur FC on Wednesday − pounced on a knock-down from Zlatan Ibrahimović to fire a left-footed shot from the edge of the area under Gianluigi Buffon. The only sour note for the visitors was an ankle injury to Kevin-Prince Boateng, who was replaced at half-time by Robinho.
Milan had threatened little until Gattuso registered his first league goal since 23 January 2008, their only previous attempt on target a long-range free-kick from Ibrahimović, which his former team-mate Buffon did well to parry. Juve, however, rarely caused problems to the Rossoneri rearguard and find themselves 20 points off the pace in seventh place following this third successive reverse.
La Vecchia Signora will slip to eighth on Sunday if US Città di Palermo win at S.S. Lazio. Second-placed FC Internazionale Milano, meanwhile, can reduce their city rivals' lead to five points with a home victory against Genoa CFC.
