• David Martin, a lifelong servant of amateur football in Northern Ireland, played football in the Boys Brigade and then at college level before joining his hometown club Dromore Amateurs in 1971. He became club treasurer in 1975. Northern Ireland’s largest league, the Northern Amateur, elected him to the position of treasurer in 1980, a position he still holds.
• He became a member of his regional association in 1981, and the same year joined the Irish Football Association, serving on its committees in every area of the game over the ensuing 35 years.
• On his election in June 2016, he stressed the importance of the association’s long- term youth strategy and the growing of the game at all levels.
