Zlatan Ibrahimović gave another standout display as AC Milan stretched their lead at the top of Serie A to seven points with a 2-0 victory at Calcio Catania.
There was little to choose between the sides in a match which became especially arduous for the visitors when Mark van Bommel, on his league debut, was sent off (54). However, Ibrahimović again proved the difference for the Rossoneri, first firing a vicious, low free-kick which Mariano Andújar could only parry into the path of Robinho, who tapped in from close range (58). The Swedish international then finished off the Brazilian's centre (85) for his 13th goal in 20 Serie A matches.
Earlier, S.S. Lazio recorded a 2-0 home win against ACF Fiorentina. The Biancocelesti's title challenge had begun to wilt following three defeats in seven league matches, but Edoardo Reja's men bounced back thanks to two goals in five minutes by Libor Kozák (69, 73).
The Czech Republic Under-21 international had scored his first Serie A goal against the Viola in September and repeated the feat from the penalty spot before heading in Giuseppe Sculli's cross at the far post. The win lifts Lazio up to third, level on 40 points with SSC Napoli.
