Substitute Mladen Petrić scored the only goal midway through the second half as Hamburger SV won for the third Bundesliga match in succession, defeating Eintracht Frankfurt in a tight encounter at home.
In a first half short on chances, the only incidents of significance were the loss of Eintracht's Alexander Meier and Hamburg midfielder Gojko Kačar to injury in quick succession. The second half initially signalled a shift in tempo, with Ruud van Nistelrooy bringing a low save out of Oka Nikolov and the visitors beginning to grow in confidence, yet neither team looked like scoring until Änis Ben-Hatira's teasing ball across goal was touched in by Petrić midway through the second half.
The victory lifts Amin Veh's side above their opponents into sixth, level on points with FC Bayern München.
