The UEFA.com users' Team of the Year 2010, as with 12 months earlier, had a heavy FC Barcelona presence.
Five million votes were cast by 400,000 users (a 25% increase on last year), and the resulting dream team featured six members of the Spain side that captured the FIFA World Cup last season.
Five of them played their club football at FC Barcelona: Gerard Piqué and Carles Puyol line up at the back, with Puyol getting the call for a record sixth time; Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta are in midfield behind summer signing David Villa, who featuredin attack alongside Argentinian club-mate, and 2010 FIFA Ballon d'Or winner, Lionel Messi.
Iker Casillas completed the Spain sextet after being named goalkeeper for the fourth successive season, while Real Madrid CF team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo was deployed in an attack-minded midfield.
The Liga monopoly was broken by Chelsea FC's Ashley Cole, returning as Team of the Year left-back for the first time in six editions. FC Internazionale Milano's Maicon was on the opposite flank, and the UEFA Champions League holders completed the lineup with Wesley Sneijder in midfield.
The man who guided Inter to glory in Madrid to complete a unique treble, José Mourinho, oversees this all-star cast for the fourth time. Then moving to the Santiago Bernabéu on a permanent basis and having managed Cole during his Chelsea days, he needed no introduction to any of the side.
