Seven Ligue 1 sides have been knocked out by lower-league opposition in the last 64 of the Coupe de France but holders Paris Saint-Germain FC started their defence with a resounding 5-1 victory against RC Lens.

The cull of top-flight sides began on Friday when Toulouse FC were defeated 2-1 at home by third division Paris FC. Two fifth division sides stole the headlines a day later, though, as amateurs SO Chambéry beat AS Monaco FC 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw and ES Wasquehal overcame AJ Auxerre 2-1, courtesy of Grégoire Debuchy's 80th-minute equaliser and David Coulibaly's added-time penalty.

Ligue 2 overcame Ligue 1 in the four other upsets, the biggest surprise seeing six-time winners AS Saint-Étienne beaten 2-0 at home by Clermont Foot Auvergne. Stade de Reims Champagne won 2-0 at home to Montpellier Hérault SC, AC Arles-Avignon were edged out on penalties by two-time winners CS Sedan Ardennes and Valenciennes FC succumbed 2-1 in extra time at SCO Angers.

PSG were convincing victors in one of two all top-flight ties – Guillaume Hoarau scoring twice against ten-man Lens – with Olympique Lyonnais prevailing 1-0 at SM Caen in the other with a late goal from Pape Diakhaté. Four Ligue 1 teams are in action on Sunday, including Olympique de Marseille's trip to face Ligue 2 leaders Évian Thonon Gaillard FC, before the round of 32 draw that evening.
