Tottenham Hotspur FC goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes prevented Chelsea FC from recording their first league win in five matches by saving a late penalty from Didier Drogba in a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.
Spurs struck first in the battle between two of London's three UEFA Champions League contenders, Roman Pavlyuchenko blasting past Petr Čech on 15 minutes. Drogba, a half-time substitute, levelled with a shot which proved too powerful for Gomes with 20 minutes left but after Ramires had been bundled over by the Spurs No1 in added time, the Ivory Coast striker's spot kick was blocked. Chelsea stay fourth, a point behind leaders Arsenal FC ahead of their encounter with Manchester United FC on Monday.
Bolton Wanderers FC, meanwhile, had Mark Davies sent off on 56 minutes with the score goalless against Blackburn Rovers FC but still emerged 2-1 winners. Owen Coyle's team − up to sixth as a result − retook the lead straight from kick-off through Stuart Holden, seconds after Mame Diouf had equalised for the visitors with three minutes to go.
Elsewhere, Stephen Hunt scored the only goal as Wolverhampton Wanderers FC overcame Midlands rivals Birmingham City FC. The midfielder swept in Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's cross to the far post on the stroke of half-time, his effort moving Wolves within a point of fourth-bottom Fulham FC.
