Olympiacos FC winger Dennis Rommedahl has been honoured as Denmark's player of the year, with 41% of the public polled by the Danish Football Association (DBU) voting for the 32-year-old.
The award, given out by the DBU in tandem with the TV 2 television station, was decided by ordinary fans through a vote conducted via the internet and by text message. A delighted Rommedahl said: "There are ups and downs in football as in life, and this year there have been more ups than downs for me. Of course, it is great to get this award from the Danish people."
Capped 103 times by his country, the former Lyngby BK, PSV Eindhoven, Charlton Athletic FC and AFC Ajax man is often called 'Morten Olsen's invention' having made his international debut against the Faroe Islands in the coach's first match in charge on 16 August 2000.
"I am a happy person, and I need to be happy in order to play football," said Rommedahl, who previously took the player of the year prize in 2007. "First of all my family make me happy, and I would like to thank them as well as everyone who voted for me."
