RTS Widzew Łódź forward Darvydas Šernas has been voted Lithuania's player of the year for 2010.
Šernas, who turned 26 in July, scored 13 league goals over the course of the calendar year for Widzew and two more for Lithuania in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers; the winner in a 1-0 triumph against the Czech Republic and one in a 3-1 defeat against European and world champions Spain. "It was a very good year for me for club and country," Šernas told UEFA.com. "I'm proud of what I achieved but I didn't expect to win this."
In the poll of football fans and experts, Šernas won 821 points, while Deividas Šemberas of PFC CSKA Moskva was runner-up for the second season running with 671. Last season's winner, Valencia CF defender Marius Stankevičius, finished third with 602 points.
The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) meanwhile named Dominykas Galkevičius as their domestic player of the year, with the midfielder playing a key role in FK Ekranas's league and cup double. Igoris Pankratjevas's bronze-winning campaign with the reborn VMFD Žalgiris saw him named coach of the year prize, while Tadas Eliošius was named young player of the year after a prolific season for FK Vėtra and FK Kruoja.
