Mario Gomez struck twice and missed a penalty as FC Bayern München climbed to sixth in the Bundesliga by sweeping aside 1. FC Nürnberg 3-0 in the Bavarian derby.
Bayern went ahead after just ten minutes as Gomez tapped in from close range from Danijel Pranjić's square ball and the German international then won the penalty from which Philipp Lahm increased their lead 12 minutes after the restart. The same player headed in from substitute Franck Ribéry's corner 15 minutes from time, but he missed out on a hat-trick by firing over after Thomas Müller had been fouled in the area.
The result lifted Bayern into their highest position this season, with Nürnberg down to tenth. In Sunday's other game, Papiss Demba Cissé scored in added time to haul SC Freiburg up to fourth via a 1-0 success at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, the Senegal striker plundering his 10th goal in 12 league outings.
