S.S. Lazio continue to hold sway in Serie A after responding to FC Internazionale Milano's 1-0 defeat of Cagliari Calcio by securing a 2-0 win at AS Bari.
Champions Inter had applied pressure in the early kick-off thanks to a sixth strike in seven league matches from Samuel Eto'o, his exquisite left-footed finish on 39 minutes putting the Nerazzurri level at the top with AC Milan. Taking up the challenge, Lazio re-established their two-point advantage thanks to a Hernanes goal on 52 minutes and Sergio Floccari's effort nine minutes after that.
Fourth-placed SSC Napoli spurned the chance to move alongside the Milan duo as they drew 1-1 at Calcio Catania, Edinson Cavani having put the visitors ahead before Alejandro Gómez levelled. Napoli now lie just a point above Juventus, who continued their recovery with a 4-0 home defeat of US Lecce which featured Alberto Aquilani's first effort for the club.
In sixth, US Città di Palermo also hit four as they overcame Bologna FC 4-1, while the side at the foot of the table are ACF Fiorentina after Antonio Cassano's 82nd-minute winner condemned them to a 2-1 loss at UC Sampdoria. One spot higher, Parma FC drew 1-1 at AC Cesena, while third-bottom Udinese Calcio prevailed 1-0 at Brescia Calcio.
