Paris Saint-Germain FC and champions Olympique de Marseille surged towards the top of the French table following victories against Toulouse FC and AS Nancy-Lorraine respectively.
Marseille lost their opening two fixtures, but extended their unbeaten league run to seven games with a 1-0 victory against Nancy. André-Pierre Gignac deflected a corner into Loïc Rémy's path after 27 minutes, and he outpaced goalkeeper Damien Grégorini to finish.
Later, goals from Mamadou Sakho and Mevlüt Erdinç earned PSG a 2-0 victory away against early-season pacesetters Toulouse, who are now without a win in five league games.
FC Girondins de Bordeaux were 1-0 winners at AJ Auxerre while rock-bottom AC Arles-Avignon picked up their first point of the season at the ninth time of asking with a goalless draw at on-song Stade Brestois 29.
