Borussia Dortmund moved within three points of the Bundesliga summit by inflicting further misery on champions FC Bayern München with a 2-0 loss, while it finished 2-2 between Bayer 04 Leverkusen and SV Werder Bremen.
Beaten by leaders 1. FSV Mainz 05 last time out, Bayern suffered their third defeat in seven league outings as second-half goals from Lucas Barrios and Nuri Şahin gave the hosts their sixth consecutive victory. While Dortmund kept pace with Mainz, Louis van Gaal's men lie 12th in the 18-team table.
Leverkusen had looked set to leap into third when Patrick Helmes fired them in front against Bremen, but the visitors turned the match around through Hugo Almeida and Marko Marin after the break. Leverkusen ultimately needed Eren Derdiyok's effort 12 minutes from time to salvage a point.
Finally, bottom side VfB Stuttgart were consigned to a sixth reverse this term as they were undone 2-1 at home by Eintracht Frankfurt.
